Hansville sits on the northern tip of the Kitsap Peninsula, about 25 minutes by car from the Kingston ferry. It is a small rural community with a lighthouse, a county park, a nature preserve and low rainfall for the region. There is one grocery store with a grill, a handful of rental houses and no hotel strip. Most travellers come for a half-day or one quiet night, not a multi-day base.

Getting around

A car is the practical choice: sights are 2–5 km apart on rural roads with no pavement in places. Kitsap Transit runs limited service in the area and connects to ferry terminals; full fare is about $2 and it is part of the ORCA network. Bicycles work on the Hansville Highway but shoulders are narrow.

Safety

Very low crime; the real risks are rural roads with no shoulder, patchy cell signal, cold water and fast tides on the beaches. Tell someone your plan before hiking Foulweather Bluff.
  • Cell coverage is patchy on the back roads and at Foulweather Bluff.
  • Foulweather Bluff has no pets allowed and parking is on the road shoulder only.
  • Skunk Bay Lighthouse is private: view it from the water, not the land.
  • Shellfishing needs a Washington permit and you must check current health closures before digging.
  • Do not remove shells or driftwood from beaches; take only artificial items such as beach glass.
