Halifax, MassachusettsHalifax
Skip as a base: Halifax is a half-day stop for Monponsett Pond and a pond-side lunch, 45–60 min by car from Plymouth or Boston.
Halifax is a small inland South Shore town of about 7,500 people at the crossing of MA-106 and MA-58, built around two halves of Monponsett Pond. There is no hotel district and almost nothing to see beyond the water, a golf course and a white-steepled 1854 church. It works as a 2–4 hour stop on a Plymouth–Boston drive, or as a quiet, cheaper bed if you have a car and want the South Shore without the waterfront prices.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around
You need a car. MA-106 and MA-58 meet in the centre and cover the whole town in 10 minutes; there is no local bus. The MBTA Kingston Line stops at Halifax station (6 Garden Rd, zone 7, about $11 to Boston, parking about $2) roughly hourly on weekdays, but the station is 2.5 km from the pond with no sidewalk link — plan a pickup or taxi.
