Pedro Sánchez
Half a day to one full day: enough for the waterfalls and a cave hike with the community ecotourism project. Not a base; stay in Bayahibe or La Romana.
Pedro Sánchez is a small village in the Eastern Dominican Republic, about three hours east of Santo Domingo. It has two waterfalls over 100 feet high, over 25 caves and a community-run ecotourism project called Treasure of the East (Tesoro del Este) that runs hikes, cave visits and horseback trips. Most travellers visit as a day trip from Bayahibe or La Romana.

- Caribbean ↗Several islands (Turks and Caicos above all, also the Bahamas and Jamaica) jail visitors for a single stray bullet or cartridge in their luggage; empty every bag and pocket before you pack.
- Caribbean ↗From August to October keep a free last day before your flight home and check the national hurricane centre daily; airports close when a named storm approaches.
- Caribbean ↗Wearing camouflage clothing is illegal for civilians in several islands, including Barbados, Antigua, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent, Grenada, Dominica, Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica; leave it at home, children's clothes included.
- Dominican Republic ↗Fill in the free e-Ticket form on the official migration site (eticket.migracion.gob.do) for arrival and departure; ignore sites that charge for it.
- Dominican Republic ↗The land border with Haiti is not a tourist route: do not plan overland travel into Haiti.
- Dominican Republic ↗Avoid driving at night outside cities: unlit roads, motorbikes without lights and animals make it the main risk.
