Ibiza town (Eivissa, locally just "Vila") is the island capital and its transport hub: the walled Dalt Vila on the hill, the marina and Passeig de Vara de Rey below it, and Figueretes and Platja d'en Bossa beaches within a short walk or bus ride. Most visitors use it as a base for 2–3 nights and day-trip to the beaches, Sant Antoni or Formentera; club nights are a separate, expensive decision.

Getting around

The centre (Dalt Vila, port, Vara de Rey) is walkable but hilly, with cobbles and stairs. Local buses leave from the stops along Avinguda d'Isidor Macabich; island lines reach Sant Antoni, Santa Eulària and the beaches, and a line runs to Platja d'en Bossa (route numbers and times check). Taxis are metered; a rental car helps only for the far beaches, and parking in town is hard in summer.

Watch out

Safety

Ibiza town is generally safe by day and busy at night. The real risks are overpriced bars with no posted prices, stairs and cobbles in Dalt Vila, and July–August heat; pickpocket and taxi-queue reports are common in high season but unverified (check).
  • Club and beach-club entry plus drinks can cost more than a night's hotel: check the door price and drink prices before you commit.
  • Some Dalt Vila and marina restaurants have no posted prices; ask the total before ordering.
  • Pickpockets work the port, Vara de Rey and bus queues in high season.
  • August is hot and packed; book beds and ferries weeks ahead.
  • Many clubs and beach clubs close or run weekends only from November to April: check before booking a winter trip.
