StoweStowe, Vermont
Give Stowe 2 nights in fall or winter, 1 in summer: base in the Village or on the Mountain Road and drive everywhere.
Stowe is a four-season resort town of about 4,300 people at the base of Mount Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak, with the state's biggest ski area 5 miles up the Mountain Road. Sights sit along Route 100 in the Village and Route 108 towards the mountain, so a car matters more than a plan. Two nights covers the village, the mountain and one factory stop; skiers and fall-foliage visitors should add a night.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: the village, the Mountain Road and the factory stops are spread over 10 miles. In winter a free shuttle runs frequently between the village and the mountain. Amtrak's Vermonter stops at Waterbury, 10 miles south, not in Stowe.

Watch out
Safety
- Mud season (roughly April–May) closes lifts, trails and many businesses: check before booking.
- Mountain Road can close in winter storms; carry chains or snow tyres and check road status.
- Cell coverage is patchy on the Mountain Road and up Mount Mansfield.
- Restaurant tables in ski and foliage season need booking days ahead.
