Give Richmond one night, or two if you want Fort Boonesborough and White Hall: it is a stop between Lexington and Berea, not a base.
Richmond is a small Bluegrass city of about 31,000 people, 50 km south of Lexington on I-75, and the seat of Madison County. It is best known as the home of Eastern Kentucky University and as the site of an 1862 Civil War battle. Two state-park-grade sights sit just outside town, so most travellers use it as a half-day stop on the Lexington–Berea run rather than a destination in itself.
