Ozamiz is a port city on Panguil Bay and the largest city in Misamis Occidental, with a working harbour rather than a resort strip. The draw is Fuerte de la Concepcion y del Triunfo, an 18th-century stone fort with a small museum and a pilgrimage shrine on its wall, plus a cathedral holding Mindanao's only pipe organ. Most travellers pass through on the way to Iligan, Dipolog or Cebu; a single day covers the sights.

Ozamiz is a working port city, not a resort: petty theft and overpriced tricycles are the usual issues. Keep to lit streets at night, watch your bag at the port and markets, and check travel advisories for mainland Mindanao before you go.
