Skip Hamel as a destination: it's a roadside village with one motel and no sights. Use it only as a fuel or rest stop on I-55 between St. Louis and Springfield.
Hamel is a tiny village of about 930 people on I-55 in Southern Illinois. It has a single motel, a diner and no attractions. Most travellers pass through in 10 minutes. The only reason to stop is to sleep at the Innkeeper Motel if you're driving the route late.
