Wellington is a Collingsworth County seat of about 2,275 people on US 83 in the Texas Panhandle, roughly halfway between Shamrock on I-40 and Childress on US 287. It is a small-town stop, not a destination: a restored 1928 movie theatre, a county museum open four afternoons a week, one surviving Ozark Trail obelisk, and a handful of cafés and motels. Plan a half day, or sleep one night if you are breaking a long drive.

Getting around
You need a car. US 83 runs north–south through town and Texas 203 heads east; downtown is a few blocks of East Avenue and Houston Street that you can walk in 10 minutes. There is no local bus, no taxi rank and no rideshare worth relying on: fill up in Childress, Shamrock or Memphis before you arrive.
