The Battlefords is one place made of two towns: North Battleford, the service city on the Yellowhead Highway, and Battleford across the North Saskatchewan River, the old territorial capital with the fort. It is a stop on the Edmonton-Regina corridor, not a destination you fly to. One night covers the historic sites; add a night for Table Mountain in winter or the provincial park at Jackfish Lake in summer.

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: the two towns sit on opposite banks and the sights are spread along Highway 16 and Highway 40. North Battleford has two city bus routes, Monday-Friday 07:00-19:00 and Saturday 08:00-18:00, with no Sunday or holiday service (check fares). Taxis (Crown Cab, NB City Cab) cover both towns. Finlayson Island is walkable from Battleford, with pedestrian-only bridge access from North Battleford.
