Give Rømø 2 nights if you want the beach and the Wadden Sea; 1 night or a day trip from Ribe is enough for the causeway, Lakolk and the oyster flats.
Rømø is a flat North Sea island reached by a 9 km causeway from the South Jutland mainland. Its draw is the sand: a beach up to 2.5 km wide at low tide, plus heath, oyster beds and a handful of small museums. Most visitors rent a cottage for a week; two nights covers the island well, and a day trip works if you have a car.

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: the island is about 16 km end to end and sights sit on two roads, Havnebyvej and Vesterhavsvej. Bikes work well on the flat, signed paths and rent for 60–75 kr per day. Bus 285 links Skærbæk station with Lakolk, Kongsmark and Havneby, but runs about 9 times on school days and only 2–3 times at weekends and in holidays.

Safety
- The tide comes in fast on the drive-on beaches: park above the waterline and watch the car.
- Open fire is banned across the island; barbecues are allowed.
- Juvre Sand is a military training area: a signal ball means live activity, watch from the platform only.
- The nearest pharmacy is in Skærbæk, on the mainland.
- Oysters are only considered safe to eat in months spelled with an R (Sep–Apr).
