Half a day to one night: the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame and a walk around the courthouse square. Not a base, but a quick stop on US-59 between Nacogdoches and Marshall.
Carthage is a small East Texas county seat on US-59, known for the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame and its connection to Jim Reeves. The downtown square has a few antique shops and cafés. Most travellers use it as a lunch-and-stretch stop on the Houston–Texarkana corridor or a short detour from Marshall.
