Winsen an der Aller is a small Lower Saxon town of about 12,900 on the River Aller, on the southern edge of the Lüneburg Heath and 15 km northwest of Celle. It is an official climatic health spa (Luftkurort) with a compact, walkable centre, a farm museum and a windmill. Most travellers use it as a quiet overnight or a short stop while touring the heath; the nearest railway station is Celle, so a car or bus is needed to reach it.
