L'Ange-Gardien is a riverside village 17 km east of Québec City, on the Côte-de-Beaupré. It is not a destination in itself: it is a half-day on the New France route, with ancestral houses along Avenue Royale, pick-your-own farms and a waterfront park facing Île d'Orléans. Stay in Québec City or Boischatel and drive through.

Getting around

A car is the practical way: sights are spread along Route 138 and Avenue Royale, and the hinterland is forested and hilly. The Marie-Hélène Prémont cycle route and the riverside park suit bikes. Intercar coaches run Québec City to Baie-Comeau but do not stop in L'Ange-Gardien; the nearest scheduled stop is Boischatel.

Safety

Very low-crime village. The real risks are rural: deer and slow farm traffic on Route 138, ice in winter, and no cell coverage in parts of the forested hinterland.
  • No scheduled intercity bus stop in the village: plan on a car, taxi or bike.
  • Most farms, the vineyard and the bakery keep seasonal hours: check before driving out.
  • Some heritage houses on Avenue Royale are private homes, not attractions.
