Begur is a hilltop town on the Costa Brava with a small old centre, a ruined castle and a string of coves and beaches below it — Sa Riera, Sa Tuna, Aiguafreda, Aiguablava, Fornells. It is a base for swimming, coastal walking and eating fish, not a sightseeing city. Two nights covers it; three if you want a beach day without rushing. July and August are crowded and expensive, so May–June and September–early October are the better window.

Getting around

The old town is walkable but steep near the castle. Beaches sit 2–4 km downhill, so you need a car, a taxi or the seasonal beach bus. A shuttle runs from the centre to Sa Riera, Sa Tuna and Aiguafreda from mid-June to mid-September, about €1 one way and 10 minutes.

Watch out

Safety

Begur is a low-crime small town; the real risks are steep lanes, rocky coastal paths, sun exposure and swimming where there is no lifeguard. Keep valuables out of sight in beach car parks.
  • Beach parking fills by mid-morning in July and August; some car parks charge in summer.
  • The Sa Tuna–Sa Riera coastal path is rocky and exposed: shoes with grip, water, no flip-flops.
  • Many restaurants and beach bars close or cut hours from November to March.
  • Coves are pebbly or steep-entry in places; check before promising a sandy swim.
