Büsum is a North Sea spa town of about 5,000 people in Dithmarschen, Schleswig-Holstein, and almost all its summer visitors are German. It is a family beach and Wadden Sea base, not a sightseeing city: the lighthouse, the harbour museum, the shrimp (Krabben) trade and the mudflats are the whole point. Two nights covers it; a day trip works only outside peak summer.

Getting around
The town is small and walkable; the harbour, lighthouse, beach and museum are all within about 20 minutes on foot. Bicycles are the practical way to reach the dike and the outer beach. Local trains run to Heide and Neumünster; buses cover the surrounding villages but are sparse on Sundays.

- Peak summer (Jul–Aug) fills the beach and guesthouses: book beds weeks ahead.
- North Sea weather changes fast; wind and rain are normal even in July.
- The Wadden Sea mudflats are only safe with a guided walk — the tide comes in fast.
