Ponoka
Give Ponoka one night, timed for the Stampede in late June or early July; outside rodeo week it is a 2–3 hour stop on the Highway 2 run.
Ponoka is a town of about 7,200 in the Battle River valley on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway, roughly 1 hour south of Edmonton and 40 minutes north of Red Deer. It is an agricultural service town with a small museum, two golf courses and one of the largest rodeos in North America. Almost nobody needs more than a night here unless the Stampede is on.
