Berlin is a village of about 900 people in Holmes County, the middle of Ohio's Amish Country, on US 62 between Millersburg and Brewster. The draw is the surrounding farm country, the shops and bakeries around the square, and the Amish and Mennonite heritage sites nearby. Almost everything is reached by car, and horse-drawn buggies share the same roads.

Safety

Very low crime; the real risks are rural roads shared with buggies, winter ice and long drives after dark on unlit back roads.
  • Buggies share the roads: slow down, keep distance, pass only when clear.
  • Many Amish prefer not to be photographed, especially faces. Ask first, and accept a no.
  • Some shops and restaurants close on Sundays and in winter; check hours before driving out.
