  • North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
  • North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
  • North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
  • United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
  • United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
  • United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
  • United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Jacksonville Beach is a small oceanfront town in the Jacksonville metro, on Florida's First Coast. It is a beach-and-food stop rather than a sightseeing city: a pier, a wide public beach, a walkable few blocks of bars and restaurants, and quick road access to Jacksonville and St. Augustine. Most visitors stay 1–3 nights, and a car makes the area far easier.

Arrive & move

Airports are listed under At a glance; this is how to move once you are in

Getting around

A car is the practical choice: the beach towns run along FL-A1A, and Jacksonville and St. Augustine are 20–40 min away. Locally, the oceanfront grid is walkable and bikeable; JTA buses serve the area but run infrequently. Rideshare and taxis cover short hops and airport runs.

See & do

Day-trips, door to door

Day-trips

Door-to-door, not ride time

Door to door: About 30–45 min

Drive on Beach Blvd (US-90) or FL-A1A, about 20–30 min

Museums, riverfront and a bigger food scene; a half-day or evening trip.

Door to door: About 45–60 min

Drive south on FL-A1A, about 30–40 min

Colonial streets and forts; go early to beat the crowds and heat.

Palm Coast

caution

Door to door: About 1–1.25 h

Drive south on I-95, about 1 h

Better as a stop on the way south than a return day trip.

Amelia Island

caution

Door to door: About 1–1.25 h

Drive north on I-95 and FL-A1A, about 1 h

Historic town and beaches; a long day or an overnight.

Which area to sleep in

Where to sleep

Areas, not hotels: pick the one that fits your arrival time and plans.

Oceanfront blocks (1st St N and S)

Hotels and condos facing the sand; walk to the pier, bars and restaurants. Best for a beach-first stay.

Beach Blvd corridor

Chain hotels and motels 1–2 mi inland; cheaper, but you will drive or walk 20–30 min to the water.

Neptune Beach and Atlantic Beach

Adjacent towns immediately north with their own small town centres and restaurants; a quieter alternative base.

Watch out

Safety

Generally safe for tourists, with the usual beach-town cautions: watch for rip currents, keep valuables out of sight on the sand, and avoid walking unlit side streets alone at night.
  • Rip currents and strong surf: swim near lifeguards and check posted flag warnings.
  • Summer heat and afternoon thunderstorms; plan beach time before midday.
  • Hurricane season runs Jun–Nov, peaking Aug–Oct: check forecasts and evacuation zones if a storm is forecast.
  • Parking near the oceanfront fills early on summer weekends; check meters and permit rules.
  • Prices are shown before sales tax; tipping 18–22% is expected at sit-down restaurants.
