Skip unless you're driving US 83 and need a meal or a bed. Wheeler is a 1,600-person town with a steakhouse, a diner and a B&B — 30 minutes from Shamrock, 20 from the Oklahoma line.
Wheeler is a crossroads town on US 83 in the Texas Panhandle, 30 minutes north of I-40. It has a handful of local restaurants and two places to sleep, but no major sights. Most travellers pass through in under an hour.
