Banchory is a small town in the Dee valley, 25 km west of Aberdeen, with Crathes Castle as its headline sight and Balmoral, Braemar and the eastern Cairngorms within reach. Most visitors come for one night or as a day trip from Aberdeen; two nights suits walkers on the Deeside Way and castle-hoppers. A car makes the valley far easier, though bus 201 covers the main stops.

Getting around

The village is walkable. Stagecoach Bluebird bus 201 runs Aberdeen–Banchory–Ballater–Braemar along the A93; bus 205 loops the village hourly. For Crathes, Drum, Craigievar and the glens, a car is far more practical.
