Give Great Falls one full day plus a night: the C. M. Russell Museum, Giant Springs and the Lewis and Clark center fill it. Two nights if you add Ryan Dam or the River's Edge Trail.
Great Falls is central Montana's service hub on the Missouri River, about 60,000 people and the state's third-largest city. There is no waterfall in town: the name refers to the rapids Lewis and Clark had to portage, and the dams that replaced them. Come for Western art, a huge natural spring and river trails, not for a downtown scene. A car is close to essential.

Getting around
You need a car. Great Falls Transit runs city buses at $1.00 a ride, $4 for a day pass and $10 for an 11-ride pass (2026 estimate), but routes cover the city proper only and do not reach Giant Springs or Ryan Dam well. The River's Edge Trail, nearly 60 miles of mostly paved path along the Missouri, is the one place a bike or a walk beats driving.
