Europa-Park ResortEuropa-Park

Give the resort two days: one for Europa-Park, one for Rulantica. Sleep on site or in Rust if you want early ride access; day-trip from Freiburg otherwise.

Europa-Park Resort is a theme park complex in Rust, Baden-Württemberg, near the French and Swiss borders: the Europa-Park theme park (over 100 attractions, 14 roller coasters), the Rulantica water park, six themed hotels and a campsite. It is seasonal, crowd-heavy in school holidays, and best done as a two-day stay rather than a rushed day trip.

Rules in force · 7Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window…
  • Europe ↗Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window, counted across all 29 Schengen states together — not per country; the Entry/Exit System now logs each crossing, so an overstay is detected automatically.
  • Europe ↗On the first Schengen entry since EES began, non-EU travellers give four fingerprints and a face photo at the border instead of a passport stamp; there is nothing to apply for or pay in advance.
  • Central Europe ↗Six of the nine countries here — Austria, Switzerland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia — charge a time-based motorway vignette, mostly digital and linked to the number plate; buy it before the first motorway past the border, because cameras, not toll booths, do the checking.
  • Central Europe ↗Temporary police checks at internal Schengen borders are common in this region in 2026 (Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovenia among others — check): keep your passport on you on every cross-border train, bus and road even though there is no fixed control post.
  • Germany ↗Germany is in the EU and the Schengen area: check entry rules, the EU Entry/Exit System and any travel authorisation requirement for your passport on official sources.
  • Germany ↗Nazi symbols and gestures are criminal offences, including as jokes or souvenirs.
  • Germany ↗Many city centres are low-emission zones: a car needs the right sticker (Umweltplakette) to enter.

Getting around

Inside the park, walk: it takes about 20 minutes end to end and paths are mostly flat and wide. Three free transport rides help — Panoramabahn, Monorail-bahn and the EP-Express. Between hotels, Rulantica and the Camp Resort, free shuttles run every 5–10 min during Rulantica hours; bus 7231 links the resort to Ringsheim/Europa-Park station in about 5 min.

Watch out

Safety

A well-run, family-oriented resort; the real risks are heat and dehydration on summer peak days, long queue fatigue, and pickpockets in dense crowds. Keep bags zipped on coasters and use lockers where provided.
  • The park is seasonal: summer roughly Apr–early Nov, winter late Nov–early Jan; check the official calendar before booking travel.
  • Peak-day waits can reach about 75 minutes for the big coasters; use the VirtualLine system and ride at opening.
  • Parking costs €10 (≈ US$12) for day visitors.
  • Airport shuttles must be booked at least 72 hours ahead; there is no walk-up service.
  • Regional school holidays in Germany, France and Switzerland fill the park — avoid if you can.
