Araguari
Skip unless you have a specific reason (hydroelectric lakes, pororoca wave). One night is enough if you stop; otherwise pass through on the BR-050 between São Paulo and Brasília.
Araguari is a mid-sized city in the Triângulo Mineiro region, 569 km from Belo Horizonte and 397 km from Brasília. Its main draws are the Emborcação and Miranda hydroelectric lakes (fishing, water sports) and the Araguari River's pororoca tidal wave. Most travellers use it as a BR-050 stopover rather than a destination.

Safety
- Pororoca wave is dangerous: anacondas, crocodiles and parasitic fish are present.
- Rainy season (Nov–Apr) can make dirt roads to the lakes impassable.
- Limited English; Portuguese or Spanish helpful.
