Eureka Springs
Give it 2 nights, midweek, on foot: the whole historic loop is walkable and parking is scarce. Come for the Victorian streets, not for nightlife.
Eureka Springs is a small Ozark resort town of about 2,000 people, built on steep limestone bluffs, where the entire downtown is on the National Register of Historic Places. It grew in a rush in 1879 around springs sold as healing water, then stalled, which left a dense set of Victorian houses and narrow winding streets. Today it is a weekend town for galleries, shops, live music and B&Bs. Two nights covers the loop and one nearby sight; a car is useful for the caves, the wildlife refuge and Beaver Lake.

Getting around
Walk in the historic district: the loop is compact but the sidewalks are rough native stone and often steep. A town trolley runs in season and covers the main sights and parking areas; check the season, route and day-pass price with the operator. A car helps for Thorncrown Chapel, Onyx Cave, Turpentine Creek and Beaver Lake; streets in the historic area are narrow, so leave large vehicles outside downtown.
