Port de Pollença is Mallorca's most northerly resort, 60 km from Palma at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana. It is a low-rise town of two sandy beaches either side of a small marina, a flat seafront promenade, and a bus route out to Cap de Formentor. It suits families, cyclists and walkers more than nightlife seekers. Three or four nights covers the bay, the Formentor peninsula and a day in Pollença town or Alcúdia.

Getting around

The town is walkable: marina to the far end of Pine Walk is about 2 km on flat ground. Buses 322 and 334 run to Alcúdia and out to Formentor; bus 301 links Palma via Pollença town. Taxis wait at Passeig Saralegui by the marina. Bikes can be hired from a dozen outlets, and a car helps for the mountain villages and Cala Sant Vicenç.

Lighthouse with a cafe; the access lane is closed to cars in summer. Bus 334 turns back at Formentor beach from October to March.

Medieval walls and street pattern; Roman Pollentia ruins just south.

Watch out

Safety

A calm, low-crime resort; the real risks are summer heat, strong sun on the hikes, and swimming outside the flagged zones. Keep an eye on your bag on the busy Pine Walk in August.
  • In summer the Formentor access lane is closed to private traffic: take bus 334 or walk the trail.
  • Bus 301 cannot be used for the short hop between Pollença town and the port.
  • Pack food securely on the Cala Murta hike; wild donkeys forage aggressively.
  • La Fortaleza on the cape is private property and cannot be visited.
  • The main bus stop is a shelter on the ring road about 500 m inland, not on the seafront.
  • Many hotels and restaurants close or cut hours from November to March.
