Nelliampathy is a plantation plateau in the Western Ghats above the Palakkad Gap, roughly 55 km from Palakkad town by road. There is no single entrance gate and no park ticket: the hills are a working landscape of tea, coffee, cardamom, pepper and orange estates, with Kerala Forest Department land at the edges. Visitors come for the ghat drive, the viewpoints at Seetharkundu and Kesavam Para, and walks between the villages of Noorady, Kaikatty, Pulayampara, Karady, Victoria and Karappara. Most of the plateau is held by plantation companies, so access is by public road and by arrangement, not by trailhead.

What are the best hikes in Nelliampathy?
The Karappara road walk is the reliable one: about 12 km from Noorady through Lilly, Karady, Victoria and Karappara, mostly gentle, with buses back. For a short outing, walk to Kesavam Para (about 2 km) or take a jeep to Seetharkundu and walk the last stretch. Anything into forest or deep plantation needs permission.
When is the best time to visit Nelliampathy?
September to May. October to February is the best window: dry, clear and cool, with nights around 15 °C in December and January. June to August is the southwest monsoon — heavy rain, clouded viewpoints and a risk of the ghat road being blocked.

Is Nelliampathy safe for solo travellers?
The villages and main road are fine in daylight. Avoid walking alone at dawn or dusk because of wild elephants, and do not trek into remote forest alone. Phone signal is patchy, so tell someone your plan.
