Morden
Give Morden one full day: the fossil centre, the threshermen's museum and a walk on Stephen Street. Two nights if you add Winkler or the corn festival.
Morden is a town of about 8,600 people in Central Manitoba, 126 km southwest of Winnipeg on Highway 3, roughly 1 h 30 min by car. It is home to the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre and sits at the centre of a Mennonite farming belt shared with Winkler, 13 km east. Almost everything worth seeing sits within a 15-minute drive, so a car is the practical way in. One day covers the core; a second night buys you the Pembina Valley and the border country.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
- Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
- Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.

Watch out
Safety
- Winter runs from November to March with highs well below freezing and wind chill: check the forecast before a prairie drive.
- The fossil centre sits in the lower level of the Morden Recreation Centre, not on the main street: look for the rec-centre entrance.
- Some museums and the arts centre keep short seasonal hours and close on Mondays: check before you drive out.
- Cell coverage is fine in town but patchy on the back roads toward the Pembina Valley.
