Treat Newmarket as a half-day stop if you are already in York Region: Main Street and Fairy Lake take 2–3 hours on foot. Do not plan a night or a trip from Toronto for it alone.
Newmarket is a town of about 84,000 people in the middle of York Region, roughly halfway between Toronto and Barrie on Yonge Street. Its one real sight is the Main Street South heritage district, a 1 km walkable strip of 19th-century buildings, with Fairy Lake and the Nokiidaa Trail just south of it. Most visitors come for an afternoon from Toronto or as a stop on the way north; a full day covers the town comfortably.
