Liquiçá, 40 minutes west of Dili, is a coastal town with a well-preserved Dutch fort, a colourful reef and quiet beaches. It works as a short escape from the capital — enough for a morning at the fort and an afternoon swim — or a single night at a beachside guesthouse. The town itself has no large supermarkets and limited dining, so plan meals ahead.
