Dumaguete
Base in Dumaguete 2–3 nights for the boulevard and food, then move to Dauin or Apo Island for diving; skip it as a pure beach stay.
Dumaguete is the capital of Negros Oriental and the transport hub of the island's south-east: a university town with a seafront boulevard, a strong café and restaurant strip, and ferries to Siquijor and Mindanao. Most travellers use it as a base for diving at Apo Island and Dauin, dolphin trips at Bais, or as a stop between Cebu and Siquijor. The city itself is compact and walkable, but the good beaches are 20–40 minutes away by road.

Getting around
No general-purpose jeepney routes in town: most trips are by pedicab (motorcycle with sidecar) or tricycle, cheap and easy to flag. A few taxis wait near Robinson's Place and Bethel Guest House. Scooters rent along Perdices St for about ₱300 a day; bring your own helmet. Streets are rarely used as addresses — name a landmark such as Rizal Boulevard, Lee Plaza or Robinson's Place.
