Bako National Park, Sarawak's oldest park, packs seven ecosystems into 27 km²: mangrove swamps, heath forest, dipterocarp forest, and coastal cliffs. It is the most accessible place in Borneo to see proboscis monkeys, bearded boars and pitcher plants. The park is reached by a short bus ride from Kuching and a 20‑minute boat crossing, and offers colour‑coded trails from an easy beach walk to a full‑day guided trek.
