Malmö is Sweden's third city and the Swedish half of the Öresund pair, 20 minutes by train from Copenhagen Airport and about 40 minutes from Copenhagen Central. It is a port and university city with a compact old town, a city beach, a strong food scene around Möllevångstorget and easy day trips across Scania. Most travellers see it in a day; one or two nights lets you eat properly and add Lund or the coast.

Bike first: Malmö is flat and bike-friendly, with rentals and city bikes. Skånetrafiken green city buses and the City Tunnel trains (Malmö Central, Triangeln, Hyllie) cover the rest; buy in the app or by contactless card, not cash. The centre is walkable end to end in about 30 minutes.

Watch out

Safety

Malmö is a normal big city: the centre and Möllevången are fine by day and evening, but avoid unlit park edges late at night and keep to lit routes around the station. Petty theft is the main risk.
  • Tickets on buses and trains are card or app only; cash is not accepted.
  • Taxi fares are unregulated: check the window sticker or agree the price before you get in.
  • Trains from Denmark stop at Hyllie for border checks; allow a few extra minutes.
  • Winter days are short and wet; plan indoor sights after 15:00.
