Teresina
Give Teresina one full day, not a base: the river meeting point, the bridge lookout and the craft market, then move on to Parnaíba or the coast.

- South America ↗Above 2,500 m (Bogotá, Quito, Cusco, La Paz) keep the first day light; sleep lower where you can (Sacred Valley before Cusco) and descend if headache comes with vomiting or confusion.
- South America ↗A yellow fever certificate is required on arrival in French Guiana, and asked for on some routes into Bolivia, Paraguay, Suriname and Guyana, or when arriving from Amazon areas — vaccinate at least 10 days before travel and carry the card.
- South America ↗Overnight buses are the norm in Argentina, Chile and Peru, but pick top-tier companies and keep valuables on your body; on-board thefts from overhead racks are the common loss.
- Brazil ↗US, Canadian and Australian citizens need an e-visa (about US$81 — check) applied for online at the official VFS portal before travel; EU and UK citizens do not. Check your passport with Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs before booking.
- Brazil ↗Yellow fever vaccination is recommended for many areas, including the Amazon and Pantanal; check with a travel clinic at least 10 days before travel.
- Brazil ↗Keep your phone out of sight in the street and on beaches; phone theft is the most common crime against visitors in big cities.
- Brazil ↗Carnival 2027 runs about 5–10 February (Tuesday 9 February; Salvador from 4 February): book Rio, Salvador and Recife/Olinda months ahead or avoid those dates.
Teresina is the capital of Piauí and one of Brazil's hottest cities, sitting where the Poti meets the Parnaíba. It is a hospital and university town with a small-town feel, not a beach or colonial destination. Most travellers pass through on the way to Parnaíba, Luís Correia or the Sete Cidades park, and one day covers the sights.

Getting around
City buses (SETUT) reach most places and are cheap; taxis are affordable and the better choice after dark. The light-rail line has nine stations but only Engenheiro/Bandeira and Frei Serafim sit near anything a visitor wants, so treat it as a curiosity rather than transport.
See & do
Day-trips, door to door
Day-trips
Parnaíba
overnightDoor to door: About 6 h
Guanabara bus from the rodoviária, about 5 daily
Gateway to the Parnaíba delta and Luís Correia beaches; too far for a day return.
Piripiri
cautionDoor to door: About 3 h
Guanabara bus from the rodoviária, about 5 daily
Useful as a stop toward Sete Cidades, not a day trip in itself.
Oeiras
overnightDoor to door: About 4 h
Bus from the rodoviária, then local transport
Piauí's old capital; colonial core worth a night, not a return day.
Luís Correia
overnightDoor to door: About 6–7 h
Guanabara bus toward Parnaíba, then onward
Coast and beaches; pair with Parnaíba.

Fátima / Av. Raul Lopes
Riverside strip with the bridge lookout, Teresina Shopping and most nightlife; mid-range and up hotels.
Aeroporto
Only for a very early flight — you can walk from the terminal, but not at night.
Redenção (bus station)
Convenient if you arrive or leave by long-distance bus; about 8 km southeast of the centre.Convenient if you arrive or leave by long-distance bus; about 5 mi southeast of the centre.

Watch out
Safety
- Heat: plan sights for early morning and late afternoon, carry water.
- Do not carry valuables on city buses.
- Do not drive the remote highways at night — poor shoulders, animals and roadblocks.
- River sandbank beaches have lifeguards only in season; currents are strong.
- Do not swim in the Parque Zoobotânico lake — caimans live there.

Coming as the guide grows
- Airport-to-bed contract for THE: taxi or app from the terminal, late-arrival fallback, hotel walk-through.
- Four walking clusters with anchors: Praça Pedro II and the cathedral, the bridge lookout and Av. Raul Lopes, the river meeting point, the bus station and Redenção.
- Place pages with verified hours (Museu Histórico do Piauí, Central de Artesanato Mestre Dezinho, Parque Zoobotânico) and eat pages with last orders.
- Dry-season river-beach fixture so the Jun–Nov window can go green.
