Pollença is a preserved inland town in the Serra de Tramuntana, 54 km from Palma, with a medieval grid of narrow alleys, a pedestrian main square and a hilltop chapel reached by 365 steps. The coast, beaches and Formentor are 6 km away at Port de Pollença, so the town suits walkers and drivers more than beach-first trips. Two nights covers the town; add nights if you use it as a base for the mountains.

Getting around

The town sights are all within walking distance, including the Calvary Steps from the main square. For the port, Cala Sant Vicenç and Formentor you need TIB buses (301, 322, 334, 231) or a car; taxis are limited, so book ahead. Bike hire is available in town.

Watch out

Safety

A quiet, low-crime town; the real risks are summer heat, narrow unlit alleys at night, and mountain roads to Formentor and Lluc. Use 112 for anything urgent.
  • Do not drive into the old town: the alleys are narrow and parking is at the edge.
  • Bus 301 from Palma continues to Port de Pollença but you cannot ride it just for that section.
  • Bus 334 turns back at Formentor beach from October to March and does not reach the cape.
  • Puig de Maria nunnery is closed; you climb for the hike and views, not the building.
  • Summer heat and exposed walking on the Formentor headland: carry water.
