Libacao

Skip unless you are a dedicated ecotourist or river guide: the wild river and remote falls are the draw, but access is long and rough. One night is enough.

Libacao is a quiet, mountainous municipality in Aklan, known for the Libacao Wild River, remote waterfalls and the endangered Philippine spotted deer. It is not a tourist hub: most visitors come for river trekking or as a stop between Kalibo and the interior. The town itself has limited services.

Watch out

Safety

Libacao is generally safe, but the remote areas require a guide. Bring cash, water and a first-aid kit. The river can rise quickly after rain.
  • Roads to the falls and river are rough; hire a guide and 4x4.
  • No ATMs in Libacao – bring enough cash from Kalibo.
  • Mobile signal is weak in the mountains; download offline maps.
  • The wild river is for experienced paddlers only; check water levels with locals.
