Parral is a 1631 silver-mining town in southern Chihuahua, a Pueblo Mágico, and the place where Pancho Villa was assassinated. Almost everything worth seeing sits within a 15-minute walk of the Plaza Principal, so it works as a one-night stop on the road between Chihuahua and the Sierra Tarahumara rather than a destination in itself. Two nights let you add the Prieta mine, the candy shops and a slow evening in a cantina.

Getting around

Walk the centro: the river twists through it and nearly 20 bridges link the pockets of backstreets, but the sights cluster tightly. Taxis wait at sitios near the plazas and Uber works. Local peseros are cheap and basic. Two tourist trams, Tranvilla and Pyojito, loop the main sights in about an hour for roughly M$40.

Safety

Parral is a working northern Mexican city, not a resort. Check current government travel advice for Chihuahua state before you commit, keep to the centro after dark, and carry small notes rather than large bills.
  • Summer afternoons are hot and the rainy season runs Jun–Sep; carry water and start sightseeing early.
  • Some museums close on Mondays and a few keep short hours: confirm before you build a day around one.
  • The mine tour goes 100 m underground: closed shoes and no claustrophobia.
  • Long-distance buses leave from company terminals on opposite edges of town, not one central station: check which one your ticket uses.
