Fuengirola is a working Costa del Sol town that grew around its beach, not a resort compound. The seafront promenade runs the full 8 km from the marina to Carvajal, the Cercanías train links the airport and Málaga, and Los Boliches is part of the same town with its own station. Two or three nights covers the beach, the castle and a Málaga or Mijas day trip; a week works if you treat it as a base and travel out most days.

The centre and promenade are walkable end to end. Cercanías C1 runs along the coast to Los Boliches, Benalmádena, Torremolinos and Málaga; local blue buses cover the town and red Avanza buses run the longer coastal routes. Buy single tickets or a refillable card for the town buses.

Safety
- Beach vendors and unlicensed minibuses at the airport may quote far above the metered fare: use the taxi rank or the train.
- Some ATMs charge around €7 (≈ US$9) for foreign cards; compare before withdrawing.
