Valparaiso is a Porter County town in Northwestern Indiana, about an hour southeast of Chicago by car and reachable by a weekend shuttle from the South Shore Line. It is a university town first: Valparaiso University supplies the Brauer Museum of Art, campus sports and theatre, while downtown holds the county museum, two small stages and a handful of restaurants. It works as a one-night stop on a Northwest Indiana run, not as a destination on its own.

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: sights sit 2–4 km apart and sidewalks are limited outside the centre. The city V-Line bus runs four routes, with the Red and Brown lines all week and the Yellow and Green lines Monday–Saturday; the Brown line stops when the university is not in session. A Friday–Sunday shuttle links downtown with the South Shore Line's Dune Park station in Chesterton, roughly every two hours, about 30 min each way.
