Warrington is a post-industrial town on the Mersey between Liverpool and Manchester, known for its rugby league club and little else. Most travellers pass it on the M6 or the West Coast Main Line. It works as a cheap, well-connected base for the two big cities, or a single night around a Warrington Wolves home game; the town itself needs half a day.

Getting around

The centre is walkable: Bank Quay to Central is about 10 min on foot. Local buses run from the Interchange beside Central station; Warrington's Own Buses covers most routes. Taxis wait at both stations. Driving is easy outside rush hour, but motorway closures push traffic through the centre.
