San Francisco is a small Veraguas village about 15 km north of Santiago de Veraguas, off the Pan-American Highway at roughly Km 250. Its one real draw is the San Francisco de la Montaña church, a 1630 baroque temple with hand-carved altarpieces. Everything else — the El Salto waterfall, the Santa María river — is local-scale. You visit it as a detour from Santiago, not as a base.

To reach it, take a bus or car from Santiago de Veraguas north about 15 km; local buses run on the Pan-American Highway corridor, but times are not fixed enough to publish — ask at the Santiago terminal.
