Rantepao is the main town of Tana Toraja in the South Sulawesi highlands, at about 700 m, and the practical base for the region's burial sites and traditional villages. The town itself is busy and dusty; you stay here for the sights around it. Two nights covers the core sites, three nights adds a market day or a funeral ceremony.
