Paracho is a Purépecha highland town of about 35,000 people in Michoacán, and it calls itself the world capital of the guitar: more than 200 workshops and shops sell handmade instruments, most of them along Avenida 20 de Noviembre and Avenida Independencia. It is a Pueblo Mágico, but the draw is the craft, not a sight list. One night is enough unless you are ordering a custom guitar or visiting during the Feria de la Guitarra in early August.

- Custom orders take weeks or months; agree the price, the woods and the delivery date in writing before paying a deposit.
