Lloret de Mar is a resort town on the Costa Brava, about 70 km northeast of Barcelona, built around a 1.6 km town beach and a strip of bars that runs late. It is the cheapest bed on this coast and the easiest to reach by bus from Barcelona and Girona airports. The trade-off is noise, crowds and a beach that is busier than the coves 3–10 km away. Two or three nights is enough: one for the beach and old town, one for the coastal path or a boat to Tossa, and one for a day trip.

Getting around

The centre is walkable; many streets are one-way and pavements are narrow, so cross with care. Five urban bus lines link the bus station with Fenals, Lloret de Dalt, El Molí–El Rieral, Lloret Residencial and Cala Canyelles; single ride €1.35, 10-ride ticket €10.60. Driving in the centre is a bad idea: parking is about €2/hour in the underground lots and fines are enforced. Taxis wait on Carrer d'Oliva near the bus station.

Watch out

Safety

Lloret is a busy resort and generally safe by day; the real risks are drink-spiking and fights on the bar strip at night, pickpockets at the Tuesday market, and traffic on narrow streets. Watch your drink, keep bags zipped, and use the 112 number for anything urgent.
  • Summer nights are loud near the bar strip; check the room's position before booking.
  • Pickpockets at the Tuesday market on Av. de Rieral and in crowded streets.
  • Some hotels close from about the third week of September — confirm dates before booking late season.
  • The castle at the end of Lloret beach is private property; you cannot go in.
  • Cyclists use the pavement lanes and pedestrians walk in them; collisions happen.
