Ramsgate is a Regency seaside town on the Isle of Thanet with the only Royal Harbour in the UK, a network of WWII deep-shelter tunnels and a working port. It is smaller and quieter than Margate or Broadstairs, and the station sits uphill from the seafront, so plan the walk down and the climb back. Most visitors come for a day or one night, using it as a base for the Thanet coast and Canterbury.

Getting around

The town is walkable: harbour to station is about 15 minutes, mostly uphill on the way back. Stagecoach buses run the Thanet Loop between the harbour, the station, Westwood and the other Thanet towns, roughly every 10 minutes. Ramsgate station has direct Southeastern trains to Margate, Broadstairs and Canterbury (journey times check).
