Le Mans is a 55-minute TGV ride from Paris Montparnasse and a former capital of Maine with a walled old town, the Cité Plantagenêt, and one of France's largest cathedrals. Outside race week it is a quiet, walkable city where the sightseeing fits a single day; during the 24 Hours the circuit at the south edge takes over the whole town.
