Pemberton
Give Pemberton two nights if you climb a fire tree or ride the tram; one night is enough if you only pass through the karri forest.
Pemberton is a small timber town of about 1,000 people in the karri forest of Western Australia's South West, roughly 330 km south of Perth and 240 km from Albany. It exists for the trees: old-growth karri, three climbable fire-lookout trees, forest walks and a heritage tram. There is no beach and no big-town nightlife, so it works as a two-night stop on a Perth–Margaret River–Albany loop rather than a destination on its own.

- Oceania ↗Oceania's island states guard their farms and reefs at the border: tick 'yes' on the arrival card for any food, plant, animal product, soil or used outdoor gear, and let the officer decide.
- Oceania ↗Across the tropical South Pacific, cyclones are possible from November to April: choose insurance that covers weather delays and keep one spare night before a long-haul departure.
- Australia and New Zealand ↗Both countries drive on the left, with long distances between fuel stops in the outback and on New Zealand's back roads; fatigue causes more visitor crashes than speed.
- Australia ↗Almost every visitor needs a visa or an electronic authorisation (ETA or eVisitor, depending on passport) before boarding: apply only through the official Department of Home Affairs site or the official AustralianETA app, and check the rules for your passport.
- Australia ↗Declare all food, plant material, seeds, wood and animal products on your arrival declaration; undeclared items can bring on-the-spot fines or visa cancellation. When unsure, declare it.
- Australia ↗Drive on the left. An overseas licence in English (or with an official translation or International Driving Permit) is accepted for visitors; check the state rules and your rental contract.
- Australia ↗Swim between the red and yellow flags on patrolled beaches; rip currents cause most beach drownings.

Getting around
You need a car. The town is small enough to walk, but the Gloucester Tree, Beedelup Falls, the Bicentennial Tree and the Diamond Tree are 10–30 km out on sealed or dirt roads. TransWA coaches stop in Pemberton on the Perth–Albany run, but they will not get you to the forest sights. Fuel up in town before heading out; distances between stops are short but there is nothing in between.

Walk to cafés, the tram station and the Gloucester Tree turn-off; best for one or two nights without a car shuffle.
Farmstays and cottages on the town edge
Pump Hill and similar properties a few minutes out; good for families and longer stays, but you need a car for everything.
Warren National Park and forest campgrounds
Basic bush camping near the trees; bring water, food and firewood, and check park alerts before you go.

Watch out
Safety
- The fire-lookout trees are real climbs on steel rungs with no harness: skip them in rain, wind or if you dislike heights, and never climb with loose gear.
- National park entry fees apply at some forest sites; check current fees at the park before you go.
- Kangaroos and rabbits on the roads at dawn and dusk: slow down, especially on unsealed roads.
- Phone signal drops in the forest; download offline maps before you leave town.
- Bushfire risk in summer: check emergency warnings and park closures before any forest drive.
