BourneBourne, Massachusetts
Use Bourne as a 1-night canal stop or a base for the Upper Cape: 2 nights if you want the canal path, a beach day and a Cape Cod Baseball League game.
Bourne is the town on the mainland side of the Cape Cod Canal, where the Bourne and Sagamore bridges carry Route 6 onto Cape Cod. It is not a resort town: the draw is the canal itself, the bike and walking paths on both banks, small village beaches and a summer baseball team. Most travellers pass through in an hour; those who stop find a cheaper, quieter base than Falmouth or Hyannis, 1 hour from Boston by car. The Cape Cod Canal Visitors Center is seasonal — listed as open May 1–Oct 29 only, so check current dates before you plan a stop around it.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: the villages are spread along the canal and Buzzards Bay, and buses are limited. The canal has service roads on both banks for walking and cycling. The CapeFLYER seasonal train from Boston runs to Hyannis and does not stop in Bourne, so you cannot reach the town by that train.
