Sabang is a barangay of Puerto Galera on Mindoro's northeast coast, built around a protected marine sanctuary with roughly 35 dive shops and most sites within a 10-minute boat ride. The three beaches — Sabang, Small La Laguna and Big La Laguna — sit within a 15–20 minute walk of each other. It is a diving town first; the beach itself is not the draw.

Getting around

Walking covers the three beaches: 15 min to Small La Laguna, 20 min to Big La Laguna. Jeepneys run to Puerto Galera town every 20 min (₱20); trikes about ₱50–150. Scooters rent for about ₱500/day, dirt bikes about ₱700.

Watch out

Safety

Diving is well organised and the beaches are calm, but the roads are the real risk: no liability insurance on motorbike taxis, broken patches on the paved Puerto Galera road, and strong currents on some Verde Island Passage dives. Dive with a shop that briefs the current.
  • Sabang pier was closed as of 2019; arrivals use Muelle, Balatero or Calapan, then jeepney or trike.
  • Buy a round-trip ferry ticket: returning on a Sunday without a reservation can leave you stranded.
  • Only one ATM in Sabang (Maxbank) takes international cards, with a 3% commission; bring cash.
  • Credit cards are rarely accepted outside larger dive shops and resorts.
  • Habal-habal motorbike taxis carry no liability insurance.
