Kanata
Skip Kanata as a base: it is a suburban west-Ottawa tech district. Go only for a Senators game or a cheaper hotel with a car.
Kanata is a planned suburb about 22 km west of downtown Ottawa, home to the National Hockey League Senators and a cluster of technology firms. It has no old-town core and little for a visitor to walk to; its value is a cheaper bed with parking and quick Highway 417 access, or a game night at the Canadian Tire Centre.

OC Transpo buses run the main routes (61, 62, 63) along the Transitway to Tunney's Pasture, where you change to the O-Train into downtown; the trip is roughly 45–60 min. A car is far more practical: Highway 417 cuts through Kanata, with exits at March Road, Kanata Avenue and Terry Fox Drive. Downtown Ottawa is about 22 km east.

- Distances are car-scale: hotels, restaurants and the arena are not walkable to each other.
- The Canadian Tire Centre sits in a field west of the built-up area; without a car, plan the bus or a rideshare both ways.
- Glen Cairn and the Centrum parking lots are best avoided late on weekend nights.
